Tested with Kali 2017.2

Install driver

  • Update the system:
    apt-get update
    apt-get upgrade
    apt-get dist-upgrade
  • Reboot:
    reboot
  • Install the required packages:
    apt-get install git build-essential
  • Install the driver, if something went wrong earlier, and you want to try again, add –reinstall:
    apt install realtek-rtl88xxau-dkms
  • Reconnect the device. The journal will show the following messages:

Monitor mode

  • Stop NetworkManger from interfering:
    systemctl stop NetworkManager
  • Check rfkill:
    rfkill list / block
  • Shutdown interface:
    ifconfig wlan1 down
  • Enable monitor mode:
    iwconfig wlan1 mode monitor
  • Enable interface:
    ifconfig wlan1 up
  • Monitor some networks:
    airodump-ng wlan1
